"If a student meets the eligibility criteria (more than 3.2 km if years 1-8 or more than 4.8 km if Year 9 or over) for the distance from the nearest school he or she will have an entitlement to assistance even if they do not attend that nearest school"

"No private conveyance allowance is paid for the first 2.4 kms that an eligible student is taken"

The Ministry of Education will provide financial assistance only for the eligible students requiring assistance.

School bus operators may allow ineligible students to travel on the bus as long as eligible students are not disadvantaged. School bus operators must charge ineligible students a 'reasonable' fare.
